Last Gasp December 1977
No Ducks! #1 states “Rated PG” on the cover, and it ain’t kidding. While a bit subversive, there’s nothing in this funny animal comic that would scare or offend a 12-year-old, much less mom and dad. Some of the stories and characters are even—dare I say—cute. And several of them are pretty stupid, especially the way the stories conclude, which is kind of astounding since Tim Boxell was in charge of the editing.
Was Boxell really trying to make a comic for older kids, or trying to make a clean underground for adults, or what? If No Ducks! #1 was intended for adolescent boys, maybe I could boost the review score a bit. But wait, there’s a spoof of a Jean Giraud (Moebius) comic in this book (one of the better stories, which ain’t sayin’ much). That leaves no doubt that No Ducks! #1 was intended for adults or at least mature teens. Which makes it really quite horrible. If not for the Moebius strip, this thing would suck donkey dick.
