The first issue of the Little Green Dinosaur features a single, book-length story entitled “The Lizard of Oz.” Picadillo, our dinosaur hero, is cleaning up a dusty trophy room when he awakens a genie that was laying dormant inside a rolled-up magic flying rug. The genie is enraged and wraps up Picadillo tightly in the rug and sets him flying out the window. Picadillo bursts through “the barriers of reality” and into “the netherworld beyond.”
Thus begins Picadillo’s whirlwind tour through strange and foreign lands, beginning with the Land of Oz, where he rescues the Wizard of Oz from a wicked witch’s castle. Later, the Wizard returns the favor by rescuing Picadillo from certain death by execution. Alas, before they can savor that victory, the little green dinosaur is whisked away by his magic flying rug to the land of the Vikings.
In the pages that follow, Picadillo wins a sword fight by using a dinner fork, has sex with several beautiful young women, loses his magic rug, eats magic mushrooms, dreams of getting a blow job on live television from Tricia Nixon, gets his magic rug back, and rides a flying horse. This all leads him back to his home, where he surprises the genie and imprisons him in the flying rug.
If nothing else, the Little Green Dinosaur #1 is a fast-paced adventure with a few good laughs, which makes it worth a read.
