Harvey Kurtzman was a literal god to multiple generations of cartoonists, including many of the underground comic legends. Kurtzman Komix was his single foray into the underground per se, but it was only a tepid adventure. There’s no disguising his genius, but when the man relied on formula, it doesn’t date particularly well. Kurtzman Komix does not diminish his status as one of the leading forefathers of subversive comics and modern American satire, but it also does little to polish the legacy, despite a few clever bits.
