Last Gasp 1971
Image of the Beast is an adaption of the Jose Phillip Farmer novel by the same name. I haven’t read the novel, but if it is as creepy and savage as the comic, it would make for a terrific midnight read! Tim Boxell (Grisly) artwork throughout. (more…)
Last Gasp August 1971
This 44-page underground was originally supposed to be Bogeyman #4, but Last Gasp or somebody figured it would be better under a different title. Regardless, this is a terrific and gruesome but often funny underground-style horror comic featuring Rory Hayes (of course), Kim Deitch, Spain, Bill Griffith, S. Clay Wilson and Justin Green, among others.
Last Gasp (1997)
The 90’s were just around the corner and Crumb was pissed…and thankfully Last Gasp gave him a platform to voice his anger and bitterness. Originally written and drawn in 1986, Crumb brings back Mr. Natural and Flakey Foont! Color Covers, Black & White Interior (more…)
Latter day Robert Crumb from the late ’90s. He’s back with Mr. Natural, Flakey FLoot and thick babes with monster tits and baby bottle nipples and a shelf you can rest a beer on. This is listed on various places as published by Nincompoop Comics (their only release) probably Crumb’s personal label, but elsewhere (and on issue 2) as by Last Gasp so that’s where we’re grouping it. It’s classic crumb nearly as good as anything he did in the ’70s and the art is even better.
Last Gasp 1973
Canada has a proud history in alternative comix from the late ’70s through the late ’80s and beyond, which was preceded by an underground comic scene led by Rand Holmes and this outstanding underground in 1973. As the title suggests, this comic features all Canadian comic creators and is loaded with beaver (more…)
Added 6 classic single issue r. crumb comics to the 2 issues of BIGASS, including some of his most ‘misogynistic.
Some reorganization on the site. We eliminated the R. Crumb category, which was kind of a catch-all of single issues. However, we have now accumulated enough Print Mint/Apex (they often published the same titles or took over each other’s titles) and Golden Gate to make separate categories.
Others were moved to Rip-Off Press, Kitchen Sink and Last Gasp.
DIRTY LAUNDRY • EL PERFECTO • HYTONE • MOTOR CITY • SNOID • TURNED ON CUTIES
Last Gasp November 1977
This Trina Robbins comic was inspired by the notorious feminist Margo St. James, who fought to improve prostitutes’ rights and organized 1960s sex parties and orgies. Little wonder that this epic tale is about a beautiful, heroic prostitute who travels halfway around the world to help out a friend and becomes trapped in international politics, a sting operation and sex with old bald men. Last Gasp (1972-74))
Psychotic Adventures Illustrated is the creepy yet beautiful creation of Charles Dallas, one of the true enigmas from the golden age of underground comix. Psychotic ran for just three issues, but they are filled with extended, nightmarish comic stories that Dallas specialized in so well. Dallas had multiple appearances in other titles, including Insect Fear, Paranoia, Skull Comics, Slow Death and Real Pulp Comics, but Psychotic was almost entirely his (Larry Todd produced one story for the third issue) and some of his best work can be found here. Then again, Dallas didn’t produce any work that really sucked, so you can’t go wrong seeking out anything he did. (more…)
