SHERMAN : There was a period where there seemed to be a series of syndicated strips that got reprinted in Smile magazine.
KITCHEN: Yeah. For a while we were syndicating strips to alternative newspapers and college papers…
SHERMAN: It sounds like the Rip Off Syndicated pages.

Snarf
Kitchen Sink (1972-1990)
In the span of a few months in 1972, Kitchen Sink launched three major underground comics anthologies: Snarf, Bizarre Sex and Death Rattle. The first of those was Snarf, which debuted in February with work from Tim Boxell, Evert Geradts and Wendel Pugh among others (including Kitchen). The second issue added Peter Poplaski, Richard “Grass” Green and featured an awesome Jay Lynch cover. The first four issues came out in a little over a year, added Joel Beck and Howard Cruse as contributors, and scored a major triumph with front-cover art by Will Eisner (featuring the Spirit). Boris Karloff’s Tales of Mystery,
Gold Key Comics (1963-79)
The Boris Karloff Tales of Mystery comics were originally published in the 1960s in a series of 97 issues by Gold Key. Each issue contained approximately 6 original stories featuring Boris Karloff. There were additional stories, puzzles and games in each issue, all in vibrant color by wonderful artists of the day. Gold Key Comics published the first 2 issues as “Thriller”, beginning in October 1962. (more…)

Terror Illustrated was a black-and-white magazine published by EC Comics in late 1955 and early 1956. Part of EC’s Picto-Fiction line, each magazine featured three to five stories.[1] The format alternated blocks of text with several illustrations per page.

TWO FISTED TALES
EC Comics (1950-55)
Two-Fisted Tales was a bimonthly, anthology war comic published by EC Comics in the early 1950s. The title originated in 1950 when Harvey Kurtzman suggested to William Gaines that they publish an adventure comic. Kurtzman became the editor of Two-Fisted Tales, and with the advent of the Korean War, he soon narrowed the focus to war stories. The title was a companion comic to Frontline Combat, and stories Kurtzman wrote for both books often displayed an anti-war attitude. It returned to adventure-themed stories in issues #36 through #39, co-edited by John Severin and Colin Dawkins, with a cover-title change to The New Two-Fisted Tales. (more…)
